Traditional ancient settlements are china’s precious architectural heritage.They not only contain great historical and cultural value, but also still undertake thereality of the use functions. Shushan ancient south street which acts as the studyobject of this article, is the cradleland of purple sand culture and the traditionalsettlement is still holding the living state characteristic of purple sand process.Therefore, in this essay, through the research of Shushan ancient south street’scompound environment in Yixing, the researcher clarify the environmentcharacteristics and the street landscape features there to find out the protectionplanning and protection principle.This study firstly analyzes the visual environment of the Shushan ancientsouth street traditional settlement according to the typology theory. Then, SDmethod is used to research assessment survey of the special visual environmentscene. Finally, researcher applies the data obtained for in-depth analysis by thefactor analysis to grasp the features of the Yixing’s Shushan ancient south streetvisual environment.Secondly, this study through analysis of sound types, sound preferences, soundpressure audio of the Shushan ancient south street vocal environment, and with theassessment analysis of the compound environment which combined by the vocaland visual environment, in order to get a comprehensive understanding of thecharacteristics of the vocal environment of the Shushan ancient south street.Finally,this article through the field measurement of the temperature andhumidity environment of the Shushan ancient south street to analyze theenvironment of the typical winter and summer climate. Then,finding out thecharacteristics and changes of the environment. Thus,providing the basic support toeffectively improve the settlements environment. This study through the analysis of the visual, vocal, temperature and humidityenvironment of the Shushan ancient south street, finding out the environmentcharacteristics and features characteristics there, clarifying the most represe ntativeemphasis and sticking point. Thus, it is beneficial to make sure the protectionplanning, main countermeasures, protection goals and planning principles.
