With the rapid development of China’s high-grade railways and highways, mechanized construction level of tunnel should be enhanced urgently. In order to improve the stability of surrounding rocks, steel arch supporting is an important step in weak rock tunnel. At present, steel arch installation is labor intensive, poor safety and low working efficiency. Adopting the steel arch installation truck to support the tunnel will become a trend in mechanized construction. This paper mainly expounded some research work about its telescopic boom’s structure and stability.First of all, this paper introduced the present situation and development tendency of the steel arch installation in domestic and international markets. Analyzing its overall structure and technical parameter and with the use of SolidWorks software, the3D geometry model of telescopic boom had been established, which passed the interference detection. The design of major parts had been emphatically described, which contains arm-seat components, big-arm components, mid-arm components, small-arm components and telescopic cylinder components.Secondly, finite element analysis software was used to establish the telescopic boom’s finite element model, and based on this, the deformation and stress of the integral structure and important parts had been obtained through static analysis. The reasons which caused the stress concentration and the schemes of optimizing structure were analyzed in this paper.Thirdly, modal analysis of the arm structure had been proceeded, which obtained the values and formation diagrams of natural frequency of the first six order. The deformation characteristics of arm structure within specific frequency domain can be forecasted on the basis of these values and formation diagrams, which provides the future work with reference to avoid resonance.Finally, on the basis of the stability theories of wheel-hoisting equipment and combined with the design requirements, driving stability and lifting stability had been analyzed with the application of classical mechanics knowledge.
