In this paper, the author used the public open space for the Chenggong campus of the Kunming university of science and technology as the research object, with the POE methods for the evaluation of the environment space after use. POE theory was studied in the research method, the evaluation method of generalizations. Combined with environment behavior, behavioral psychology, Kunming university of science and technology was analyzed through observation public open space for the Chenggong campus of the user’s behavior habits. Summarized the various types of campus public open space. According to the requirements of the user’s behavior, on the campus public open space partition, the analysis from the aspects of life, sports, traffic, teaching and so on, using observation method, questionnaire investigation, action mapping, interview method, etc. POE method for the evaluation, found out the user focus on campus open public space, and space problems in use and design flaws.Combed and summarized the evaluation criterion, design principles of the public open space. With excellent domestic campus environment cases, POE process and results, and user’s behavior habits and so on, made instructional design principles for all kinds of campus public open space, adaptation design for the object of study. In order to build a kind of space which can realize doing students’necessity activities, spontaneous activity, social activities, let the student have the sense of belonging from outdoor activities in comfortable campus public open space. And stressed people-oriented and sustainable development of the environmental space design.
