The Research For Campus Open Space Based On POE Methodology

These days, with expanding university enrollment, population density of campus increases. Most universities will face renovation, extension or construction. Campus open space is part of university environment. It is an important place for the life and study of teachers and students. With the wave of campus constructions are heated today, the study of designing campus open space is increasingly extensive.Teachers and students are the main part of campus open space, and their satisfaction and evaluation of usage is important basis for the improvement of campus open space. POE is empirical research methods for describing and evaluating environment. It focuses on efficiency and using patterns of space and environment, and provides scientific basis for design projects in users'point. It offers reference for campus plan and design with POE applied in study of campus open space.With the theory and methods of POE, this paper studies campus open space of Northeast Normal University and surveys the satisfaction of users, based on which it proposes optimum design and provides basis for vigorous and"human centered"campus open space system.First, after the study of related documents and introduction of campus open space and POE, this paper provides the theoretical basis for study and design. Then, it studies the usage of campus open space of Northeast Normal University, analyses behavior rules and preferences of users, evaluates the usage of campus open space, and concludes the main problems of existing campus open space. Last, it discusses the design rules and goals of campus open space, based on which it proposes optimum design for renovation.This paper combines the theory with empirical research, and tries to make the study practically and meaningfully. It has set example for campus open space on design methods.
