In a globalizing world, market competition intensified. In order to improve theircompetitiveness, in all aspects of the product, such as research, design and manufacture,companies have to take full account of the demands of their customers to compete based oncustomers. QFD can transfer the customer demands into the product characteristics, determinethe customers’ focus of a product, and solve the problem of "what to do" in product design,but it cannot make specific improvement measures. TRIZ is a tool that can make specificimprovement measures, it happens to be able to make up the shortcomings of QFD. Theintegration of this two for product design can not only ensure product design process bealways based on customer demands, but also determine improvement scheme quickly, and thecompetitiveness of companies will be improved.In this paper, the related concepts, principles, and their integrated steps and models ofQFD and TRIZ are introduced. And the ball check valve is selected as the research object, andthe integration of QFD and TRIZ is applied to the quality optimization improvements of it.Customer demands of the ball check valve are obtained through investigation, the affinityfigure and hierarchy structure of the customer demands are obtained through sorting. Then, theweights and satisfaction of customer demands are obtained respectively through fuzzy analytichierarchy process and fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method, and the key customer demandis determined as "low energy consumption" through these two data obtained. Next, the marketcompetitiveness assessments and technical characteristics of the ball check valve are obtainedthrough customer demands, the product planning house of quality of the ball check valve isestablished, the improvement goal is determined as “reduce fluid resistance, reduce energyconsumption”. With the information of the product planning house of quality of the ball checkvalve and the working principle of the ball check valve, three schemes of the ball check valve’squality optimization improvement are selected by using the methods of conflict analysis basedon TRIZ:(1) Dividing the sealing ball into several small balls;(2) Using a sealing ball withsmaller mass;(3) Letting the sealing ball leave the main flow path when the normal operation ofthe system, and letting the sealing ball return to the main flow path after the system shutoff.Finally, the sequence of each scheme is determined through grey relational analysis evaluationmethod, the sequence is r3>r2>r1, No.3scheme is determined as the best quality optimizationimprovement scheme.
