Port as the connection point of the maritime transport and land transport isconnected to railway, road and airline and other modes of transport. As the nationaltransportation hub and the distribution center for import and export is playing anincreasingly important role in the entire logistics network. Factors related to portdevelopment are the port own conditions and the economic situation of its hinterlandeconomy, and the latter of which is becoming increasingly significant. In the nationaleconomy, the role of the port is not just to improve the international trade revenue. Italso contributes to the development of the industrial and service sectors of the portarea and impacts the region’s industrial structure and people’s lifestyle. As the portitself constantly improves, its cargo handling capability is improved. As a result, theport attracts more customers and develops continuously. With the economic levelenhanced, the hinterlands provide more cargo for the port and thus promote thedevelopment of the port. Based on this idea, ports and port groups are engaged in afierce competition for the supply of goods. In order to win in the competition, some ofthe ports expand the scale blindly, resulting in the port overcapacity and an enormouswaste of resources. In the face of this situation, to partition the range of porthinterland scientifically and rationally is particularly important. From the disorder competition reality, this paper takes the port hinterlandsegmentation as the main content, aiming to carve out relatively reasonable the rangeof port hinterland. The paper is divided into five chapters. Chapter zero is theintroduction. It mainly introduces the research background, significance, domestic andforeign research status, method and main content. The chapter one describes the porthinterland theory, the relationship between the port and the hinterland, and theinfluencing factors and the general method of port hinterland partition. It classifies themethods from different points of view and then summarizes the characteristics andlimitations of these methods. After this, we introduce the B-V model for porthinterland segmentation. This method is built on the basis of the traditional theory ofthe breaking point and the Voronoi diagram theory. After the correction of the modelwe segment the port’s hinterland. It is a good attempt and innovation. The chapter twoanalyzes the present situation of the development of the Qingdao port, Qingdao city and the hinterland. In chapter three, it uses the B-V model segment the hinterlandareas of Qingdao Port. By collecting the data and materials of the research hinterlandand port, using principal component analysis method to determine the Centricitystrength of the top four ports in Shandong Province, finally it gets the result ofhinterland area of Qingdao Port. In chapter four, after a comprehensive analysis of theresult, it gives some suggestions to hinterland expansion and port development.Chapter five is the conclusion and the outlook. Summarize the research and give somesuggestions so as to provide reference for port hinterland segmentation.
