Understanding of arc extinguishing characteristics and model is the key to study technologies of arc fault. Firstly, this paper summarizes the develo-pment status of arc theory, clarifies the latest research achievements of arc extinguishing at home and abroad, from the earliest compressed air arc extinguishing model and oil medium arc extinguishing model, to present more accurate complex plasma theory and the magnetic fluid based on the theory of SF6arc extinguishing model,descript the complex internal thermoelectric process, interaction with the surrounding quenching medium,point out the advantages and disadvantages of the existing arc extinguishing technology. Introduced the related physical characteristics of arc formation, development and extinction processes.This paper mainly studies the application of explosion process in a semi-closed space generated under shock wave near the electrode in the arc plasma, from the point of explosion mechanics research stress, strain and stress-strain relation of arc thermal plasma under the condition of explosion. Based on elastic-plastic theory of fluid,the two-dimensional axisymmetric equations of arc thermal plasma under the action of explosion shock wave is extablished, the stress of arc plasma is analysised combined with the classical mechanics of explosion theory, changing state equation of thermal plasma under heavy explosion is derived. Using arc reignition theory, the characteristics of arc extinction under heavy explosion are analysised. Through the method of fluid calculation in cell, arc plasma state changing model under is getted,arc extinguishing time characteristics under heavy explosion are discussed and analysised.Then,by the test of arc extinction under blast, the arc extingction model is verified.Finally, by practical application of blast arc lightning protection technology on a transmission line to obtain operating data, compared with the previous data,relies that explosion arc lightning protection technology is reliable, effective, with the prospect of engineering application.
