Lug and bolt are very important components in connection struction, they arewidely used in the industrial and aviation fields. Howeve, due to the various shapes oflugs and botls and the complexity of the work environment, the connection structionsare prone to failure and leading the an immeasurable loss. While, there is no currentsystematic law on lugs joint destruction due to the complexity of lugs. In this paper, thefinite element method and some typical experiments are used to analysis the lugs andbolts joint destruction in different cases of loading.Firstly, the load-bearing value of the connection with undamaged lugs has beensimulated by FEM and typical tests, and we get the influence rule of the change of thebolt hole and the change of the parameters in empirical equation. Then, the lugs withcracks have been analyzed by FEM, hence we find the change rule of dimensionlessstress intensity factor of lugs with cracks in different condition, it decreases rapidly andthe rise slowly with the length of the crack increasing. Besides, in order to ensure thatthe lugs can get to the maximum load, the shear damage process of the bolt has beensimulated by FEM. And get the influence of screw thread and pretightening force on theshear damage of bolt.
