Self-lubricating spherical bearings are well known bearings, their main propertiesare: negligible friction and high load capacity. For these reasons self-lubricatingbearings are widely used in heavy machines, water conservancy facilities and railwayengineering. With the rapid developments in mechanical engineering focused on frictionreduction and life prediction of mechanical components, the requirements forself-lubricating spherical bearings are more and more higher. At the same time theworking conditions becomes severe and heavy duty, high levels of vibrations and hightorque starts to be the normal working environment for these bearing. Hence,it isnecessary to improve the properties of self-lubricating spherical bearings. In this work a new test rig machine have been developed and testing conditionshave been modified to meet new, more severe, criteria. Also,a bonding method ofself-lubricating bearings with woven liners has been studied and an extrusion moldingprocess has been analysed using FEM.According to the real working conditions of large scale self-lubricating sphericalbearings, this work designs a test rig which can test friction torque characteristics ofself-lubricating spherical bearings. Within the work two more phases have beencompleted: the design of the whole mechanical structure of the rig and the design of apendulous device. The test rig has been designed with SolidWorks and its dynamiccharacteristics have been analyzed with ADAMS software.“SK63” room temperature curing epoxy adhesive has been selected as cement. The bonding process used is: orthogonal tests and peeling test (for this bonding process, the initial time is50min, the load is0.4MPa, and the load time is20min). Thisbonding process will be the reference to bond the outer ring of the self-lubricatingspherical bearings with the woven liner. The outer ring of the self-lubricating spherical bearings with the have beenbounded with woven liner. The peeling strength has been tested with a standard peelingtest, also a feature to fix the outer ring to the machine have been designed. The resultsshow that the average peeling strength is0,769N/mm which is greater than0,35N/mm that is recommended by standards (GB5502-2005). The frictional characteristicsof different woven liners, by use of M200friction model and wear testing machine, have been tested. The worn surface of the liners has been observed and the mechanismhas been analysed. The extrusion molding process of self-lubricating spherical bearings have beenstudied and an extrusion die has been designed, the stress and deformation of outer ringin the process will be achieved using FEM and optimize the structure of the outer ring.
