| The evolution of urban Form, caused by the development of economic and politicalculture and spatial structure with different historical stages, reflects the regionalcharacteristics of strong. However, the large-scale urban renewal and developmentactivities at the present neglect the evolution of local, leading to the monotony of cityscenes. Moreover, the development of county-level cities of Northwest is oftenneglected, compared with the developed cities. The historical features and traditionalspace form of Shiquan Old Town in Qinba Mountain faces the increasingly seriousdamage with the change of modern urban construction and life style of residents.Furthermore, the Shiquan County actively designs the declare of famous historical andcultural town in Shaanxi province and the old urban area needs the urgent protectionand renewal.Based on the renewal of Shiquan Old Town, the paper explored the spatialevolution process and the update strategy by field research and comparative analysis.Moreover, the renewal and design approach for future development was exploredcorresponding with its spatial form evolution, which provided geographical elementsand methods for the renewal of old urban area.Firstly, by literature collection and field research, the paper summarized the oldcity’s natural geographical features and social and economic background, and analyzedthe history and cultural characteristics deeply. Secondly, based on the field research, adepth analysis on the formation, maturation, stagnation, and recovery of the old cityspatial form was done, which considers city morphology theory. Studied was also thedevelopment periods in history and the characteristics and dynamic factors of urbanspatial morphology evolution. Thirdly, the remained traditional spatial morphology of old urban area at the present was deeply analyzed with the elements divided into fiveaspects, namely castle,core,axis,group and interface. Besides that, the historical andcultural value was summarized, laying foundation and formulating goal for the renewal.Finally, based on field research on the current situation of urban area, its own spacecharacteristics were used in renewal of old urban area, taking the successful model ofcity renewal and typical cases in China. Moreover, it was provided that the overallprotection was combined with partitioned updates. Some suggestions and prospectswere also proposed for the development of old urban area in future. |
