China has a long history and vast territory with appreciable physical geographicaldifferences in the east, west, north and south, in the course of history, diversearchitectural styles are formed due to the various culture atmosphere in different places.Chinese traditional timber buildings has been fully developed on the research of itsstructure system and construction technologies, while the utilization of other materialsand technology to build the traditional buildings does not get the same level of attention,and they should be further studied. As a kind of ancient building materials, Stone hasthe characteristic of durable and strong, inherited and continued many ancient regionalcultures. Along with western Sichuan and Tibetan life, stone-constructed dwellings havebeen developed thousands of years. Built only with local materials such as stone, timberand mud, but has good heat-preservation and seismic performance, the traditionalstone-constructed dwellings should not be overlooked.In the study of regional architecture, the structure system of stone-constructeddwellings has less special study, but the realm of architecture creation is well discussedand summarized. The study of stone-constructed dwellings of western Sichuan andTibetan are also limited in space form and distribution characteristics and so on.Therefore, the research of stone-constructed dwellings seems to be necessary. So thispaper locate in stone-constructed dwellings of western Sichuan and Tibetan, accordingto the characteristics of stone material, processing, step by step, the analysis of itsformation conditions and construction process, and summarized the structuralperformance of the system, analyzed the structure component, the relationship betweenthe static calculation and the damage condition, the member of the maximum bearingcapacity, and finally draw the corresponding improvement measures. This paper summarized the research group’s previous research data,and based onthe survey of the traditional local-style dwellings, while architecture, urban planning,natural environment, cultural history as investigation foundation, and the architecture,materials science, civil structure, mechanical as study methods, the common structuretypes are classified, the simulation component are formed, the structure system of staticload experiment and the bearing system load capacity, seismic performance areanalyzed. Through this study, we hope to optimize the structure and improve theconstruction technology of the stone-constructed dwellings of western Sichuan andTibetan, and based on this, appealing much more people to study the essential attributeof architecture and improve measures at the perspective of traditional stone-constructedbuildings, and then stand on a higher angle to fully solve the problems for thedevelopment of the regional architecture.This research was supported by the National Natural Science Fund.
