The relationship between urban traffic and urban development, can be expressed as aninteractive relationship between the development of urban space and urban traffic network inphysical form. From the urban traffic development perspective, the primary task to solve theproblems of coordination between urban development and transportation is to fullyunderstand the characteristics and running status of urban traffic network.Urban traffic network is a complex system covering the urban geographical spatial, andit has a distinct spatial attribute. But observe the pattern and relevant parameters of the urbantraffic network from space perspective can identify and advance its structure,and providedecision support for playing its function to promote the development of urban spaceeffectively. The primary content of evaluating urban traffic network efficiency is to breaktraditional thinking which simply aims at running status analysis and consider various aspectssystematically.This paper starts from the characteristics and space function to the efficiency connotationanalysis of urban traffic network. State out the quantitative measurement of static efficiencyand dynamic efficiency separately and construct the corresponding evaluation modelaccording the analyzation. Lastly, taking the main roads network of Xi’an municipal as ansample promote the essential discussion of urban traffic network efficiency evaluation.The main achievements and conclusions can be summarized as:(1) put forward thaturban traffic network of space have static effect and dynamic effect, and the matchingefficiency is also static efficiency and dynamic efficiency. Through the research of the trafficnetwork spatial morphology form static efficiency we can indirectly analyze its staticefficiency. Space convenient degree and network mobility which reflect the focus of the urbantraffic network running status are preeminent investigation objects;(2) Space syntax theorycan effectively identify the urban traffic network space morphology, which reflects the staticefficiency of urban traffic network. Calculated xi ’an city road network space form of theglobal features and local features using the spatial axis segmentation;(3) Measure the urbantraffic network running status of urban road network dynamic efficiency can be done fromweb accessibility and mobility two aspects, by building the evaluation model based onaccessibility and mobility, then combining with the ESDA space differentiation method canfurther obtain the dynamic efficiency of spatial relevance and heterogeneity.
