Safety Assessment Method Of Operating Freeway Through The Mountains

In order to deal with the safety problems on operating freeways through the mountains,principles, executing flow, main contents and systematic methods of traffic safety assessmentis developed based on investigating and analysing road characteristics, traffic flow, drivingbehavior, causes of accident and operating speed. This is under the concept of operating speed,which is supported by the project of typical freeway in Yunnan Province. The traffic safetyassessment system is established above the supporting project’s integrated improvementcountermeasures.The freeway safety evaluation system contains main six parts, such as road conditionaudit, current safety evaluation, analysis of driving behavior, designing complianceassessment, safety inspects by operating speed and driving load evaluation, and so on. Thesystem provides a set of safety evaluation and inspects methods for freeways throughmountains, which is objective and all around the project.Based on the research, freeway safety will be improved by the application of theevaluation method for mountainous freeways. It is visual and effective for the evaluationwork, and significant to protect road users from hurt to safer freeway.
