With the rapid development of dangerous cargo transportation industry, safety incidentslike dangerous cargo transport vehicles rollover, collision, leakage and explosion occurfrequently, which brought a series of social and environmental issues. Real-time monitoringsystem of dangerous cargo status has a very important significance for the protection oftransport, strengthening the management of transport of dangerous cargo, accident warningand emergency rescue.Based on the above background, the paper designed and developed vehicle monitoringsystem of hazardous materials transportation based on wireless sensor networks. The systemadopt hierarchical monitoring architecture of hazardous materials transportation based onwireless sensor networks, and the monitoring system is divided into distributed informationgathering layer, data transaction and transport layer and remote application layer. Hardwareand related software based on the ATmega1281and AT86RF230wireless sensor nodes havebeen designed and implemented, and as a basis to build a multi-sensor distributed informationcollection platform of the status of hazardous materials; The backoff algorithm of wirelesssensor network MAC layer CSMA/CA mechanism, RTS/CTS way and sleep mechanism havebeen analyzed and improved, while optimizing the timing of the wireless data transceiver inthe physical layer,which make wireless transceiver chip AT86RF230data download and senddata simultaneously; Designed the vehicle main processing terminal based on embeddedoperating system uC/OS-Ⅱ, combining with uC-GUI, FATFS, and LWIP designedman-machine interface, local data store and remote data communication; In a laboratoryenvironment, completed the principle prototype of vehicle monitoring system, at the sametime has carried on the key indicator test and performance analysis.Test results show that the system can complete the collection and analysis of a variety ofstatus information of hazardous materials within milliseconds, a real-time early warning to thedriver of hazardous materials transportation and remote transmission of the alarm informationwas implemented. The application of this system is conducive to improve the pre-controlability to dangerous accident and the speed of response of emergency treatment after theaccident.
