The design of automotive panel drawing die surface is the key link of the drawingparts process design. The quality and speed of its design directly affects the structuraldesign of the automotive panel die and its mold manufacturing cycle. The study find thatthe same type automotive panel not only have a certain degree of similarity in appearance,shape, size, but also have similarity in the die surface design. Base on this, Knowledgeengineering is applied in this paper. Object-oriented XML knowledge representationmethod is used to express the experience and geometric information, which are used toestablish the die surface design knowledge base,in the design of the die surface. And thenthe knowledge base can drive the design of the die surface.In this paper, the author studiesthe key technologies of knowledge engineering and the process of die surface design in thePDCAPP system, that is developed by my lab, firstly. After that the paper raises themethod and system flow of realizing the knowledge-based binder surface design,addendum surface design and drawbead design.The paper modifies the method of die surface design in PDCAPP system. And thenPDCAPP system was used to design the automotive panel which are classified. The paperuses different XML document structure to save the experience and geometric informationin the design of binder surface, addendum surface and drawbead in the knowledge base.After making the knowledge base, the system calls the corresponding type of XMLknowledge of the document,according to the type of the product,and reads experienceand geometric information contained in XML documents, then transforms them into theexecutable program. The system automatically designs automotive panel die surfacewhich are adapting to the product.Based on the research results, the paper realized the design of the knowledge-basedautomotive panel die surface on the NX platform, successfully designed the automotivepanel instance and improving the design efficiency.
