The auto body panel was an important component, whose characters were thin, large and high surface request for quality, making the process hard in design. The cycle and cost of auto design mainly depended on the design and production of body panel. At present, the talents for coachwork on automobile panel mould domestically were weak, so it is necessary for most Motor Corporation to import panel mould. There was no 3D model so that it was difficult to redesign mould.This article studied on the sidewall inner panel which the cooperative company imported oversea. During the forming, the quality of product was not stabilization and always caused necking and crack in the some position. The corporation wanted to analyze the faults and found a way to eliminate them.The research was based on RE, CAE and ARGUS strain measure system in this article and mainly carried on following research:1) Reversed design the Sidewall inner panel drawing dieThe key of measuring the geometry of sidewall inner panel die, such as the method of measure and the date process were studied based on ATOS 3D scanner. The CAD model of sidewall panel drawing die was acquired based on RE.2) Constructed the finite element model and analyzed the strain of sidewall inner panelThe forming process was been analyzed based on the finite element in DYNAFORM, and the strain was measured by ARGUS strain measure system. From the two results, the validity of the finite element can be verified, and the cause of the fault can be found.3) Redesign the sidewall panel drawing die and optimized the process parameterFrom the analysis results, we can find that the defect of necking and crack can not be solved only through the parameter optimization. The drawing die was been redesigned and the process parameter was been optimized by the orthogonal tests based on redesigned die. The results showed that the redesigned die can eliminate the defect.
