Hydropower is a kind of clean and renewable energy with the advance of security ofsupply and economic-cost. With the increase of China’s energy demand andimplementation of the policy of energy conservation and emission reduction, hydropowerexploitation will develop rapidly in a new period. In the twelfth five-year plan for powerindustry, it puts the development of hydropower on the prior strategic location and bringsforward to focus on the development of western large water power bases in china, such asJinsha River, Yalong River and Dadu River. It also pays emphasis on the combinationdevelopment of big and small stations and comprehensive development of valley cascade.However, there exists intricate hydraulic and electric connection between basin cascadehydropower stations with different regulation performances and exploitation goals. At thesame time, the operation of basin cascade hydropower stations is subjected to manyfactors, such as power grid, reservoir inflow and other utilization demands of waterresources. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out joint optimal scheduling research,especially short-term optimal scheduling research. It can improve waterpower utilizationrate and power benefit, and ensure the safe operation of power grid. Short-term generationplan is the core and key of hydropower short-term power optimal scheduling, and is alsothe main content of this paper.Above all, The shortage of traditional method for short-term generation plan isintroduced in the paper, and system characteristic of cascade hydropower stations isanalysed, which reveals the water and electricity connection and the relationship betweenreservoir capacity compensation and power compensation. The solution for peak loadregulation of power grid is also proposed in the paper. Then, influential factors ofshort-term generation plan for cascade hydropower stations are discussed, and variousconstraint conditions, such as water requirements, water level between cascadehydropower stations, grid typical load curve and unit condition, are also taken into account.Next, on the basis of Xiluodu-Xiangjiaba cascade hydropower stations’ demands forefficient conversion of water and electricity, short-term generation scheduling models withthe optimal goals of maximum cascade power generation amount and maximum cascade power benefit are established respectively. At last, solving methods for short-termgeneration scheduling models are proposed. And solution to difficulty of short-termgeneration scheduling under the condition of power transmission across grids of Xiluoduhydropower station is elaborated. Calculation and analysis are carried out based onXiluodu-Xiangjiaba cascade hydropower stations.The method for short-term generation scheduling proposed in the paper can meetXiluodu hydropower station’s special operation demands from “one reservoir, two stationsand two power dispatches”, which greatly improves the accuracy of power generation plan.It also provides valid technical support and guidance for safe and stable operation ofpower grid and short-term power optimal scheduling of Xiluodu-Xiangjiaba cascadehydropower stations.
