A Research On The Function Of Music In Urban Public Leisure Space

With the development of economy and advancement of urbanization, urban publicleisure space has become a kind of fashion of modern society and a social microcosmof this cultural time. However, from the point of theory construction, there is lessstudy of this new city space; From the point of actual construction, the view of policymakers and planners focused more on living good environment, but ignored its softenvironment, the humanistic spirit. In all the humanistic arts, music is most stronglylinked to people’s social life, and also is an art of the social characteristics. With thespeeding up of the pace of city life, how to use music culture to resolve thecontradiction of people and to build a harmonious society has become an importantand urgent social problem.Combined with the literature material method, participant observation method andinterviewing method and based on the predecessors’ research, this paper defines theurban public leisure space, which is can be easily close to public, meet the demand ofsightseeing, interest participation, emotional communication, material exchanges,accessing to feelings of joy, alleviate fatigue, and ultimately the self-perfection andself-development of the people of different backgrounds, ages, occupations, hobbies,cultures within the scope of the city. It is a public space taking leisure as the mainfunction. Then taking shopping square as an example, through the field trips toDayang Department in Quanzhou, it explores the creation of music atmosphere in theprocess of construction of urban public leisure space and verifies that ambient musichas influence on the main psychological activity and behavior of the urban publicleisure space and the building of space atmosphere. And there is a possibility that acertain type of urban public leisure space will have a match of a environmental musictype. When the two things combined, music produces the main attraction to space andthe optimal effect to main psychological activity in space. On the one hand, this studyexpands perspectives of human geography research, enriches methods of humangeography research, in order to make beneficial to guide the development of humangeography research field. On the other hand, it provides the beneficial train of thoughtfor city planning, space design, etc.
