Fracture is one of the main type of pavement early damage. In order to prevent waterfrom infiltrating into the lower pavement structure, which leads to the deterioration of thepavement condition, sealant is one of the main methods to prevent fracture. Reasonable use ofsealant can prevent further deterioration of pavement fracture, and prolong the service life ofpavement. Among different fracture repairing and filling materials, vulcanizing asphaltsealant is one of the most common fracture repairing material. Current asphalt sealants havebeen used successfully in warm climate, and have ideal durability. However, there are manydomestic sealant types, only a few research of high performance sealant has been carried outin China.This paper collected research status and relative mature specification at home and abroadof the sealant development, giving a requirement of sealant performance. A systematicresearch on preparation of sealant was conducted, including preparation methods, preparationtime, preparation temperature, and the determination of adding order of compoundmodification, and so on. Through the research of all kinds of modifier in the sealant, thereasonable modification range of all kinds of modifier is given. Determine the optimal ratioand influencing factors of the sealant by orthogonal test method, making the sealant to cost ata minimum and achieve optimal performance. Choose three different fracture repairingmaterials, comparing the performance with the sealant being researched.Results show that, the sealant being researched in this article has significant hightemperature softening resistance, low temperature ductility, foreign body embedded resistanceand tensile properties. This sealant can be adopted in both warm weather and cold weatherconditions.
