FSAE(Formula SAE) Competition is an international event, the game has received wideattention of those vehicles and related majors students of great colleges and universities of theworld. This paper does some research in FSAE on the general layout and suspension racingdesign, and some simulation analysis for the suspension and vehicle handling stability.It alsodo some research on the relevant parameters suspension kinematics and the impact of wholevehicle handling stability based on the design of Chang’an University FSAE racing car.At first, after the study of the general vehicle layout technology roadmap, this paper doesoverall layout design based on ergonomics with CAD technique, and then determines thebasic form,assembly, vehicle size and quality parameters of the racing, sums up the workflowand main content of the FSAE car overall layout. This paper also research and analysis of thekey target parameters and design methods of FSAE racing suspension design, and determinethe double wishbone suspension specific structure and calculate the relevant parameters of thesuspension. Then, based on the parameters of the car,establishes suspension, steering, body,brake subsystem model, and the assembly of the vehicle model with virtual prototypingtechnology. Secondly, study the K characteristics of suspension system with the wheel parallelbeating and reverse beating experiment to make sure the scope of suspension parametervariations, and research the impact of Kingpin inclination and caster angle to the camberangle in the steering test. This paper also combines the stability evaluation criteria with FSAEracing ratings criteria to make some analysis and evaluation in the fields of the steady-stateperformance, transient response and the steering agility. Finally, through comparing theresults of the test, this paper does some studies on the effects of the camber angle, toe angle,suspension stiffness, kingpin offset parameters to the handling stability of the car, thendiscusses the method of the racing parameter tuning for the handling stability.
