Until the end of2011, Hohhot vehicle population reached more than500thousand,represented an additional90thousand than2010, a growth rate of23.2%. The trend of urbanrapid mobility makes the contradictions between rapid expansion of car traffic demandcapacity of urban resources become more prominent. As an important node of city roadnetwork, intersection directly affects the traffic capacity and service level of road network.Studies have shown, the intersection delay caused by the vehicle traveling on a road accountsfor nearly31%of the entire time. As a node of the road network, the congestion ofintersections will inevitably affect the surrounding road network congestion, bring the delaysof entire network system and then bring exhaust pollution, energy waste and noise problems.There is also information that domestic urban traffic congestion and traffic accidents occurmainly in the intersections which have a great impact on the people’s production and life andcause losses. Therefore, the study and analysis of intersection traffic organization andmanagement issues has important practical significance to ease traffic congestion and ensuresafety.Urban road congestion is largely due to insufficient traffic capacity of intersections, ForHohhot, it is the old city within the Second Ring that traffic conditions are relatively poor. Asfor the old town area of road network construction is basically mature, intersection layout hasbeen basically finalized. In order to improve road traffic conditions, the effective method is tooptimize the intersection traffic organization that maximize the inherent capacity of roadnetwork to alleviate traffic conditions. And its less investment, quick effect, with obviouseffect in improving the road network transport efficiency.Road intersections of Hohhot are mainly intersections, so this paper only studiesintersection traffic organization and optimizations. Firstly, as a basis for optimizingintersection traffic organization of Hohhot, this paper introduces traffic organization andoptimization research status and related basic knowledge, Secondly, this paper describes theintersection traffic organization and optimization methods in detail, and strives for providingsome scientific, comprehensive and practical theories for intersection traffic organization andoptimization. Finally, this paper analyzes the current situation problems of Hohhotintersection traffic. Aiming at these problems, this paper takes some intersections as anexample and puts forward some improvement of intersection traffic organization andoptimization methods that have a certain guiding significance to improve traffic conditions ofHohhot City.
