The manufacturing industry is the foundation of the national economy, moldindustry is the core of the development of manufacturing industry, which is alsothe main equipment for parts production, mold industry is the core of thedevelopment of manufacturing industry and the main equipment parts production.The casting by mold produced has some prominent advantages, such as highprecision、high productivity、low power consumption and so on. There is noother manufacturing process can compare with mold production. Mould industryhas become a symbol of the national industrial development level.After the1960s, with the rapid development of computer technology,computer technology has been widely used in mould design and manufacturing.CAD/CAM system has become the most important means for mouldproduction.UG is one of the most outstanding CAD/CAM softwares and it hasbeen widely used in manufacturing industry as a high-end software.This paper use UG software as a main tool to design mold and write the NCmachining program of cavity and core to get automobile gear box top cover.When designing mold, firstly, according to the design drawings, make use ofUG designing three-dimensional modeling to analyse model’s structure andcharacteristics to decide the overall design scheme of mold, I diside to usegravity casting mold production process at last. Considering complex structure ofcavity and core、strict processing precision, I find out that it is too difficult touse the traditional processing equipment for its processing molding. So we adoptprecision CNC processing equipment-machining center, the program which isused by machining center is programmed in the module of UG processing.Assemble the mold to trial produce. Focuses on the analysis parameters in theprocess of casting process, and put forward the corresponding plan of qualitycontrol to greatly improve the quality of the casting at last. Through design the mould of gravity casting process of numerical control machining、optimizedanalysis parameters, CAD/CAM softwares combinate with actual production hasbeen realized.
