Automobile industry is the pillar industry of national economy. Upgrading of the cardepends mainly on the development cycle of car body, and the automobile cover parts diedesign and manufacture is the key for developing the car body. Higher efficient, higherquality and lower cost for the exploitation of the automobile cover parts are requiredbecause of intense market competition. Rapid development of the automobile cover partsmold has become the automobile enterprise’s top priority now in order to meet the autoenterprise research and production capacity.Manufacturing process of the hood shell mold was formulated based on the basicprinciple of the automotive covering parts production technology and process design.Theneach craft link was designed by means of the UG software. By using the Autoformsoftware, the forming process was analysed and optimized. According to the mouldproduction equipment, the mould height and feed height were determined. Structuredesign of the hood outer panel, flanging and trimming die were completed. The mattersneeding attention of local parts in the process of mould design were analyzed, and theimprovement measures were put forward.This paper comes from the need for hood outer panel die design of a domestic carcompany. Under an order of the actual requirement and the practicability of the products,stamping process and mold design of the engine cover plate parts have been completed byusing the CAD/CAM and CAE numerical simulation analysis technology. The efficientcombination of the computer simulation and product manufacturing is achieved.
