The degree of automation of the ship is an important indicator to evaluate shipadvanced degree. The level of automation is higher in terms of ship automatic controland cabin alarm system in China; the other respects are lower relatively such as theautomation degree of cabin environmental monitoring and fire warning. Automaticmonitoring system for the cabin environment and fire real-time early warning systemis great significance to improve the comfort of ship cabin environment, enhance thesafety of navigation, and improve the level of automation of the ship.First of all, the cabin environment monitoring system based on CAN bustechnology is designed to monitor the environmental parameters of the cabin in realtime. The PIC16F877A MCU is used as core control chip of the low machinearranged in the various compartments of the ship, then the parameters acquired bythe low machine, such as temperature, humidity and smoke, are uploaded to the hostcomputer via the CAN bus network.Secondly, the data transmission system of the monitoring system with highreliability is established. The monitoring system is required to have good datatransmission reliability because of a long time ocean-going work and harsh&changeable maritime climate. In this dissertation, dual CAN bus redundant design isadopted in which there are redundant configurations of bus physical layer and thedata link layer, to meet the reliability requirements of the monitoring system for datatransmission. Finally, the software development based on LabVIEW is completed for theinteractive interface and database management systems of the monitoring system. The man-machine interface can run the routine operations, such as real-time displayof the monitoring parameters, data query, alarm processing and reports printing.Database is regard as the basis of the data management system, and othersub-function modules are developed based on the idea of modular design. Thecorresponding subsystem module can be selected depending on the actual needs, and the software is able to adapt to different needs of the other ships without large-scaletransformation because of its good versatility and portability.
