| Courtyard buildings are archetypes which exist home and abroad at any period with their distinctively characteristics. After the movement of Modernism Architecture, spaces of courtyards in these new buildings demonstrate a wide variety of forms far beyond their original archetypes. The study seeks to find the relevancy between the modern space archetypes and the Chinese traditional ones through the practicing of architects from both home and abroad. Therefore, a path for transform the traditional Chinese architecture into modern ones could be found.The study analysis with the method of space form language, firstly, features of Chinese archetype are defined through the contrasts between the two groups of cases on the aspect of "space unit","space constitution" and "spatial sequence".Second, an analysis on the similar modern space theory such as "transparency","super flat" and "gray space" will be conducted. Third, the practice on the modern courtyard will be presented as an correlation as well as an expansion to the Chinese archetype. Finally, an conclusion is summarized based on the analysis above. |
