Emphasis on green building has prompted the necessity of assessing building performance from a life cycle perspective, which means a complete evaluation of resources consumption and environmental impact in various stages of a building’s life. This thesis aims to evaluate the double skin facade (DSF) in such fashion. A method is thus proposed to compute both economic and environmental benefits of DSF, including its energy saving potentials, cost effectiveness, soundproof advantages, structural benefits, thermal comfort benefits, and aesthetic merits. The findings are expected to help architects better understand this facade technology and its suitability in practice. The contents are as the following:(1) The assessment of DSF in the economic benefits and the carbon emissions from a life cycle perspective;(2) The assessment of DSF in structure, insulation, comfort, and aesthetics.(3) The comprehensives evaluation on double skin facade, including the quantitative evaluation and qualities evaluation.(4) A case study based on Hangzhou’s climatic features.
