With the rapid development of the technology of semiconductor, converter and computercontrol, electric propulsion has become the development direction of the ship propulsion becauseof the benefits of energy efficient, environmental protection, easy in operation and to control.Shipbuilding industry and research institutes at home and abroad have increased research effortsof marine electric propulsion system. Propeller as an important part of the electric propulsionsystem, its load characteristics definitely affect the key technology research of integrated electricpropulsion system. Therefore, this topic is based on the construction project of the shipintegrated electric propulsion system research platform in Marine Engineering Institute of JimeiUniversity. The research of the propeller load of physical simulation system has a very importantsignificance for studying deeply of electric propulsion system.In this paper, the propeller load is the research object. According to the workingcharacteristics of asynchronous motor and using the technology of PLC,converter and computercontrol, the experiment system about simulating accurately propeller working characteristicsunder ship in different working situation can be developed and the ship integrated electricpropulsion system research platform can be completed.This paper main work are as follows.1. The basic parameters of the propeller, the formula of thrust and torque, the open-waterpropeller characteristic chart and the interaction between ship and propeller are described. Threeimportant propeller torque characteristics are analyzed. The propeller thrust characteristic andship resistance characteristic are explained.2. Advantages and disadvantages of different types of propeller simulation system areanalyzed. For existing power propulsion system, the propeller load system constitution ofintegrated electric propulsion research platform is designed. The control strategy of the propellerload simulation system is explained. The working principle of the key technologies is analyzed.3. According to the designed strategy, the system hardware selection and system integrationare accomplished. The different parts of the system are analyzed and PLC program is completed.The implementation of the PLC and converter communication is studied particularly.4. The ship and propeller mathematical model arithmetic is studied. The propeller simulatedload system software architecture and interface are designed. The PC monitor software based onDelphi is developed and its communication with PLC is realized. The Propeller open-waterexperimental data is translated to easy to use. 5. The electric propulsion system and the propeller load simulated system are cooperatedand the experiment data is analyzed. The propeller load simulated system under many differentsituations is tested and the experiment data is analyzed.The tested experiment prove that the propeller load simulated system works properly whichcan simulate the propeller characteristics of freedom navigation, mooring and reverse. The datais successful implementation real-time transmission among the various devices. The loadmonitor software can control the load system startup, provide setting torque and monitor states ofsuch as speed, torque and ship speed state which data can be stored in the database.
