Distribution automation is an essential part of master station of distribution network. The location, isolation and recovery of the feeder fault are the core of distribution automation functions. Currently the main centralized fault processing method is based on FTU mainstream distribution network fault processing.Centralized fault handling process is composed by two parts--fault isolation and power supply to positioning area. There are two algorithms for normal fault location isolation. One is based on the graph theory and the other is based on the artificial intelligence. There are also two common algorithms for the recovery of the fault area. One is based on the heuristic algorithm and the other is based on the artificial intelligence. Artificial intelligence algorithm used currently consists of many practical disadvantages such as a long computing time and the consuming of learning cycle. Therefore, the artificial intelligence algorithm is not being applied widely. Currently the combination of graph theory and heuristic algorithm is a practical method applied for fault location isolation and restoring process in the distribution network. In this study the problems existing in the graph theory and heuristic algorithms have been investigated. It was found that these two methods mainly have three disadvantages:firstly a huge storage space required during the modeling, secondly a long calculation processing, and thirdly a high cost on modeling maintenance. Based on these three disadvantages, this thesis proposed that the fault processing and the advantage application in distribution network should be considered at the same time in order to avoid the existing problems.According to the statement above, the modified and improved graph theory and heuristic algorithm have been both designed practically. The designation for both algorithms includes the relationship between function model and advantage application, the procedure of real conduction, the type of important data and the definition of function for advantage applications. Moreover, the testing base for main station of DF8003D distribution network has been designed and established. A testing proposal for the function of civic distribution network was applied in the practice modeling. The testing results proved that the method in this study is practical and can be applied in the main station of large distribution network.
