Research On Evaluation Of Stakeholder Influence In Construction Projects Based On SNA

Stakeholder influence in construction projects means the impact of stakeholder on the behaviors and decisions of projects, managers and other stakeholders. Stakeholders exert a certain influence on projects and complicated relationships between them also bring quite an influence. In order to satisfy stakeholders’ interest requirements and avert their conflicts, managers need to make a scientific evaluation on stakeholder influence. Existing research methods are not systematic or comprehensive because of qualitative analysis and most of which focus on stakeholders’ attributes and relationships between stakeholders and projects, which means that relationships between stakeholders are ignored. For this reason, it’s important to evaluate on stakeholder influence from the perspective of relationships between stakeholders.From the view of relationships between stakeholders, introducing SNA (Social Network Analysis), breaking down traditional "Dyadic Ties" theory, this paper determines evaluation indexes of stakeholder influence by empirical analysis; then establishes a frame model based on SNA to evaluate stakeholder influence scientifically and roundly; finally tests and verifies the model scientific and effective. As is shown in research results:(1) the SNA evaluation indexes of stakeholder influence in construction projects include:overall network density, degree centrality, betweenness centrality, closeness centrality and subgroups based on degree of stakeholders;(2) the frame model of evaluation includes:first, obtains relationship data of stakeholders, builds relationship matrix, draws relationship network and calculates indexes’values; secondly, uses5indexes above to make a comprehensive evaluation on stakeholder influence from three aspects of whole network, ego network and partial network; thirdly, keeps in touch with stakeholders, maintains good relationships with them and accumulates management experience and knowledge;(3) the case study shows that the evaluation model is able to help managers recognize all stakeholders’influence and take measures to cope with their different influences to make sure that projects be in the right path..The evaluation indexes and frame model of stakeholder influence based on SNA are a worthy exploration in the field of construction project management and they can be directly applied into construction project management to make a scientific evaluation on stakeholder influence.
