The coal hopper car is a kind of important railway freight train, and opening/closing mechanism of bottom door in coal hopper is the key components making the coal dumped. There are many forms of this mechanism, such as " sword-style" which is independently developed by China and "Quick-release"which is widely used in abroad. These mechanisms, which are all designed according to the characteristics of the planar linkage mechanism, and some of them with fluid or electrical operating system, can improve work efficiency because there is no need of manual operation. However, with the improvement of automation degree, the motion reliability problems gradually appeared. For example, some mechanisms which are heavy loaded lose efficacy when they don’t reach the coal unloading location, and the bottom doors open automatically. Therefore, it is especially important to research the motion reliability of opening/closing mechanism.Taking two kind of " sword-style " and " Quick-release " opening/closing mechanism produced by a factory for example, the motion reliability of opening/closing mechanism of bottom door in coal hopper is researched by the method motion reliability simulation in this paper. This method takes ADAMS as the analysis platform, combines with Monte Carlo theory, uses MATLAB to calculate, and solves reliability by simulation.Firstly, the parameterized model of " sword-style " and " Quick-release " opening/closing mechanism is established by ADAMS/View, and the length of bars and clearances of mechanism is parameterized by variables. A user-defined function is programmed by C++, and linked with ADAMS; Then, program by command Language of ADAMS, to parameterized model by Monte Carlo theory under the circumstances that manufacturing error is considered only and manufacturing error and clearances are both considered. Cycle simulation is executed by calling ADAMS/Solve module, and the data of simulation is saved in text files; finally, program by MATLAB to calculate the reliability under different situation; On this basis, all work is integrated, a human-computer interaction interface is established for "Quick-release" opening/closing mechanism, and this motion reliability simulation module is developed by interface development function of ADAMS and MATLAB.A new method to research motion reliability of opening/closing mechanism of bottom door in coal hopper car is proposed in this paper.
