The Research Of Transitional Space In Museum Architecture

Museum is the witness of human spiritual development as well as the place of cultural popularization and exchange, witnessed the progress of society. With constantly updated architectural design conception, museum space design has entered a new phase of human-centered, taking people’s perception and experience as the fundamental starting point, to guarantee people’s comfort and pleasure during the visit. The transitional space plays an important role in the transforms of spatial sequence, and connected to all the functional spaces, is the key that influence visitors’experience.The transitional space of Museum includes entrance hall, sequence hall, corridors, patios, stairs, ramps and other buffer space, is not only connection and transformation of space, but also where people get psychological regulation and conversion. People can walk through or stay in transitional spaces, the situations in it connect all the developments of space plot. Transitional space is the prelude and background, and also continuity and transition of functional spaces, in which people get a good physical and psychological transition, and a complete and coherent visit.The article started with basic research of concept, features and spatial significance of transitional space, to point out the importance and irreplaceable status of transitional space in architecture since ancient times. Then it tried to do specific analysis on museum transitional space, including forms and function, as well as people’s perception, behavior and experience of space plot, which reflect the huge effect of the space on people and exhibitions. And take human experience as a starting point, based on domestic and international examples, summarized the various elements of transitional space design. Finally, the analysis focused on two domestic representative instances, to show the overall design and use of transitional space.Through the research and analysis in this paper, I hope to draw architects’ attention to the importance of transitional space in museum architecture, and to provide a useful reference for future domestic museum design, to create a more rational and humane transitional space and better reflect the value of architecture.
