Catenary is a special form power lines of the traction power supply system, in the event of failure will directly affect the normal operation of the system. The main catenary maintenance work is remaining the device in the normal operating state, the measurement and evaluation of its actual state and bringing it back to its normal state. Proactive maintenance ideas to analyze the failure root cause of equipment, implementation of proactive maintenance can improve equipment reliability and reduce maintenance costs. Developing the proactive maintenance strategy of Catenary can benefit Catenary operational management.In the aim of develop the proactive maintenance strategy of Catenary, the author used root cause failure analysis method (failure mode and effect analysis) and tools (Fault Tree Analysis) to study catenary failure mode and effect, explore the catenary equipment importance index and develop catenary proactive maintenance strategy methods for a viable operator theoretical approach of catenary maintenance.In the paper, firstly, the author based the catenary design, construction, structure, function and the characteristics of the current maintenance mode, put forward the catenary proactive maintenance strategy process. According proactive maintenance processes, used the analytic hierarchy process to list the important index of influence of several factors, calculated the relative weights of factors,and used Monte Carlo simulation method for quantitative calculations catenary equipment importance index. Combined with the actual failure case studies obtained common failure modes of high-speed rail catenary geometry, electrical, insulation and another aspects, qualitatively analyzed the reasons and their effect of these failure modes, divided severities, completed the catenary failure mode and effect analysis table. Followed, the paper established the catenary fault tree model, qualitatively analyzed the catenary fault tree minimal cut sets to provide the basis for the catenary fault diagnosis. It could be used to guide the development of the catenary maintenance mode.Finally Catenary engineering examples demonstrated proactive maintenance process: the author analyzed catenary negative sag failure modes and their affect, through used fault tree analysis to analyze the root causes of failure, and made feasible maintenance recommendations.
