As China’s urbanization accelerates, Chinese urban citizens faces problems of theincrease on traveling distance and time consumption. To meet residents’ fast and efficientdemands of traveling, rail transits with high speed and large capacity arevigorously developed in many cities. Generally built along the city’s main roads, so raillines have some limitations on accessibility. For citizens who live beyond the direct reach ofrail transit, they have to take other transport means to get to the transit stations. With thecontinuous spread of the philosophy of sustainable development, scholars began to developa new mode of "green transportation"—the bicycle-rail transit-transfer traffic mode. Puttingbicycle as an effective complement to rail transit not only can reduce the transfertime-consumption, but also can improve the accessibility of rail transit and expand theinfluence scope of transit transport.Based on reference to the current research situation on B&R mode at home and abroad,this paper, firstly, analyzes the advantages and disadvantages, traffic characteristics andspatial-temporal features of the bicycle and rail transit separately. And the paper discussesthe necessity of combining bicycle and rail transit from aspects of travel efficiencyimprovement, energy conservation, traffic congestion mitigation,etc. The paper thenanalyzes the generalized travel cost of B&R mode(the cost in time, expense and comfort),and re-calibrate the perceptual coefficient of the three costs, and confirms the weightingratios based on the survey data. And an attracting scope of passenger flow using bicycle-railtransit-transfer is determined by contrasting the generalized travel cost of using bicycle-railtransit-transfer with that of bus-rail transit-transfer.And then, qualitative analysis is used to explain the behavior mechanism of B&Rmode from the perspective of accessibility, which are mainly affected by factors such as theaccessibility of the trail transit station, of the bicycle traffic and of transfer facilitiesresources. Further quantitative analysis of residents’ transfer behavior is made by theestablishment of Transfer mechanism model that based on factor analysis. By dividing theB&R transfer process into bicycle-travel part and park-transfer part, the article establishes abicycle transfer transit probability mode, whose characteristic variables are extracted fromthe process of factors analysis.Finally, by taking the survey data of five stations in Changchun Light Rail Line3as aexample, the paper makes an analysis of the inner relationships among individual attribute, travel attribute, the rail transit station’s accessibility, the accessibility of bicycle traffic aswell as the accessibility of transfer facilities resources; predicts the bicycle transferprobability and transfer volume of the above5stations; and some planning suggestions aregiven on setting up bicycle parking lot at the Station Linhe Street, Century Square, theNortheast Normal University and the Changying Century City.
