Research On Layout Optimization Of Rail Freight Network In Chifeng Area

Railway transportation plays a significant role in boosting economic developmentand promoting social progress. What is more, it attains incomparable advantages in termsof energy conservation, environmental protection and low-cost transportation. The rapiddevelopment of economy has led to an unprecedented growth tendency of market demand.Under such a circumstance, China’s railway freightage is confronted with both hugeopportunities and challenges, with the layout and planning of railway network serving asthe essential content and means of railway development. Chifeng is located in thejunction of Inner Mongolia Autonomy, Hebei and Liaoning provinces, and also betweennorth China and northeast economic zones. It is the central region of the CapitalEconomy Circle and Bohai Rim. And since it remains the nearest region from ports inInner Mongolia, Chifeng occupies an important strategic position as the main roadtransport hub. Natural resources and mineral resources are copious in Chifeng, so aretourism resources. In order to adhere to the strategic program of developing westernChina and achieve rapid social and economic development in Chifeng, its industrialstructure needs to be upgraded and distinctive industries developed. Meanwhile, inconsideration of the growth of railway freightage, the railway network is in need oflayout and planning so as to meet the demand of railway freightage and build a railwaytransportation network with comprehensive functions as well as improved equipment.With the focus on the scale and planning of railway network, the thesis begins withan introduction to research background and research significance. In this part, the authorexplains the basic theory concerning railway freightage and modern logistics, andanalyzes factors influencing the development of China’s railway freightage as well as itscurrent situation. Secondly, emphasis is put on Chifeng’s transportation network and aSWOT analysis is conducted on Chifeng’s conditions for developing railway freightage. Thirdly, the demand characteristics and demand structure of Chifeng’srailway freightageare analyzed, followed by the prediction of its railway freight volume via a predictiveapproach so as to improve its railway network. Finally, the author proposes the target andprinciples for planning railway network, introduces the practical methods, predicts theproduction and sales trend of cargos transported by railways, and suggests theimprovement of railway freight channel in Chifeng.
