Intelligent buildings have now developed from single building automation control system tointegrated system and using more and more LAN technologies. Between these LAN technologies,binding IP Internet and intelligent building automation networks is the most popular researchdirection. In the current existence of intelligent building automation network communicationprotocols, BACnet standard is one of the open protocols that have the most development potentialand wide application. The BACnet Committee developed BACnet/IP standard to binding BACnetand IPv4network, with a range of issues advent, such as lack of IPv4network addresses resources,IPv6networks are increasingly playing an important role. But the BACnet Committee has notproposed BACnet/IPv6standard yet.This paper mainly focuses on the issue about BACnet and IPv6interconnection, but for theconnection of BACnet/IPv4with BACnet/IPv6network problem, the paper also does some analysis.Firstly, the paper introduces the BACnet/IPv4communication model, analyses BACnet protocol toIPv6extension mechanism in-depth and proposes a BACnet/IPv6communication model. Themodel is primarily based on the BACnet/IPv4BVLL protocol layer, replaces the IPv4broadcast toIPv6multicast mechanism. In the aspect of BACnet/IPv6code realization, use the open sourceproject BACnet Protocol Stack as the base code, and extends it to support IPv6.Meanwhile, this paper studies the BACnet protocol communicating via IP internet in detail. Thisincludes BACnet and IPv4network interconnection BACnet/IP PAD and BACnet/IPv4technologies. And in the aspect of BACnet and IPv6network interconnection, discusses theBACnet/IPv6technology, as well as ways to connect devices via IPv6over IPv4tunnels.Since then, this paper proposes an architecture using the BACnet router to interconnectingBACnet/IPv4and BACnet/IPv6networks. About the hardware design of the router, selects ARM9series TQ2440development board as the hardware platform, and extends its network interface. Andabout the software design, uses the embedded Linux operating system as the software platform,uses the open source project BACnet Protocol Stack acting as BACnet stack platform.Finally, in the system test part, this paper verifies the correctness of the BACnet Protocol Stackand the designed BACnet/IPv6communication model, testes BACnet/IPv4and BACnet/IPv6networks communication as well.
