Installing monitoring system in the unmanned intelligent vehicle can not only realize no one is really driving but also improve the execution efficiency of unmanned vehicle and save cost by the application of algorithms such as path planning algorithm. So monitoring system in the study of unmanned vehicle plays a very vital role.In this paper, the vehicle navigation, monitoring principle and the structure and function of the system have been analyzed and stated deeply. The paper puts forward a solution which is based on GPS, GIS, GPRS/3G wireless network. The whole monitoring system consists of vehicle terminal, monitoring terminal and communication center. The main function is completed by monitoring terminal and the interaction between the vehicle terminal and the communication center is the point. This paper introduces the construction of wireless data transmission protocol and the software design. Integrating GPS, GIS, and GPRS/3G wireless network in together, the system not only takes advantage of GPS module to track the vehicle quickly but also uses high speed, real-time and wide GPRS/3G wireless network to achieve the purpose that is information interchange between vehicle terminal and monitoring terminal. The vehicle receives and analyzes the GPS information and transmits to the monitoring terminal. After the monitoring terminal matches this position information with electronic map, and then displays the position on the map. Observing the monitoring interface, the monitoring personnel can monitor the unmanned intelligent vehicle and also inquiry necessary parameters. What’s more, after comprehensive analyzing, the monitoring personnel send command to the vehicle to scientifically control and management to improve the operation efficiency.This monitoring system uses C/S mode where the vehicle terminal and monitoring terminal work as clients to send requests to the server. The specific implementation is that the system realizes the data communication function though the GPRS/3G wireless network. On the basis GIS software, we have selected the MapX plug-in, a part of Maplnfo. as electronic maps secondary development tool. We use VB6.0to design the monitoring interface. Though sockets, multithreading, database, multimedia video technology, accessing data, playbacking historical trajectory of the vehicle, querying track points and broadcasting video etc is realized.
