Research On AIS Navigation Technology Based On Electronic Chart

The purpose of this study is to display navigation information dynamic visually by use of electronic chart and AIS technology in the electronic chart plane, including its trajectory, speed and surrounding environment, and predict its potential risk of collision to make judgments and decisions as soon as possible.AIS system is mainly used in research of ship management and collision avoidance, which is a ship navigation equipment based on VHF communication. It can ensure continuous and reliable communication among the ships in the entire waters. In contrast to radar, the amount of information it provides is huge, highly accurate, with strong anti-jamming capability, and can be transmitted over obstacles. But AIS system also has its limitations, such as the limited geographical and environmental information. With the electronic chart technology, it not only can accurately display the status of navigation information, but also be able to complete the distance and azimuth calculations, route design and calculating the ship’s position in the electronic chart, fully displaying radar information, which can make dual detection in the ships fitted with AIS. This enhanced the collision avoidance capability and safety of ships.This study focuses on the basic concepts of AIS technology and packet analysis, introduces the working principle and communication protocols of AIS, analyzes the AIS TDMA technology, and makes a clear description of AIS packet information. This article also introduces the performance mark and main features of electronic chart plane, focusing on the theoretical data model of S-57format chart data, data structures and packaging standards, and makes research on DCPA and TCPA technology, potentially predicting the risk of ship collision.This paper achieved the basic navigation functions, combining the electronic chart technology with AIS technology, not only can display real-time status information for ship navigation. With chart information, it can also display geographical information surrounding the ship, which effectively implements the navigation of the ship, improves the efficiency and safety of maritime personnel.
