The noncircular bevel gear drive is a new type of gear, it can realize the continuousnonlinear variable driving ratio between intersecting axes. Currently, it has broad applicationprospects in engineering machinery, shipping, automobile, aerospace, variable gear pumpand other fields. With the new type of gear drive being applied to more fields, new andhigher requirements have been put forward for the designing and processing technologies ofnoncircular bevel gears. However, no good solutions to these problems have been raised atpresent both at home and abroad. Even though a noncircular bevel gear can be made bysome methods, the making process is difficult, after wearing gear is not easy to replacebecause its tooth profile is just an approximate spherical involute, which also severely affectsthe meshing and driving performance of noncircular bevel gears. Therefore, it’s verynecessary to carry out new research on the designing and making methods of noncircularbevel gears so as to push forward their promotion and application.Based on the forming principle of spherical involute, this thesis studies a new methodcommonly used for the designing and making of noncircular bevel gears with the cutting ontracing line.First, a method of designing spherical involute tooth profile is put forward on the basisof the spherical involute forming principle of bevel gears and the geodesic curvatureprinciple of differential geometry. Specifically, the equivalent bevel gear is built on the thepitch curve according to the geodesic curvature of spherical pitch curve at the big end of thenoncircular bevel gear. After this, the spherical involute tooth profile of the noncircular bevelgear is built by utilizing that of the equivalent bevel gear and a3D modeling of thenoncircular bevel gear with spherical involute is established with CATIA. Next, theassembled model of the noncircular bevel gear is led into ADAMS. By analyzing gear driveof the noncircular bevel gear designed, the speed changing curve and the contact forcechanging curve can be obtained respectively, which help to demonstrate the error and stability of gear drive.Then, the cutting on tracing line of making bevel gear with spherical involute isillustrated. In this part, an experimental machine tool is built in VERICUT, the structure ofthe cutting tool is designed, the size parameters of the cutting tool is analyzed. In addition,related parameter formulas and equations of motion needed in the processing of thenoncircular bevel gear are analyzed and calculated.Finally, the simulation and processing experiment is implemented. The processingprogram of the noncircular bevel gear is written, after which simulating and processing ofthe noncircular bevel gear is carried out. Meanwhile, efforts should be made to demonstratethe feasibility of processing the noncircular bevel gear by means of cutting on tracing line.
