In the last decade, numerous of "high, big, full" hospital projects were built all over the country. There will be the discovery of unreasonable design in the both functional and spatial aspects. However, China lacks the feedback mechanisms of post occupancy evaluation in hospital architectural design which leads to the same mistakes repeated in different hospital projects. In this context, my mentor applied for the key project of Beijing Natural Science Foundation "Hospital building function and environmental post occupancy evaluation system", hoping to fill the blank areas of the hospital building POE research, this paper is a sub-project of the project. This paper takes the inpatient department as the study subject. The inpatient department is an important part of hospitals. All the patients’daily life take place here, from this perspective, it can be regarded as an micro-city, while the nursing units are the communities and the wards are the patients’residences. The quality of the functional and spatial design of the inpatient department has an important impact on the treatment and rehabilitation process of patients. This paper is composed of five chapters. The first chapter is the introduction, discussing mainly about the soursces and research value of the subject, sorting out the status of research in related fields both at home and abroad, comfirming study methodology, study subject and study content and building the paper frame. The second chapter forms the post occupancy evaluation standards of inpatient department in a hospital after studying the theoretical classification of hospital building systems and the function and space of hospitals. The standard includes three aspects:the intial establishment of the evaluation framework, the preliminary selection of evaluation methods, the preliminary selection of evaluation standards. The third chapter is the core if this paper, it mainly discusses the adjustment process of post occupancy evaluation standards of inpatient department in hospitals. The data and information collected through investigation provide an objective basis for adjustment, proofreading and improvement of the evaluation frame and standards formed initially. The fourth chapter first describes the post occupancy evaluation standards of inpatient department that is eventually established from the two persectives of application description and evaluation criteria, then it takes the Guangzhou Panyu Central Hosptital as an example and explains how to use the evaluation criteria for inpatient buildings with the post occupancy evaluation. The fifth chapter is the architectural design guidelines for inpatient department buildings, forming a closed loop with the post occupancy evaluation standards of inpatient department, and working together to improve the quality of hospital construction.
