The automotive industry is playing a more and more important role in the social and economic life, in which great efforts have been put by countries to promote economic competition. With development of technology and increasingly severity of international competition, to improve quality and reduce cost must be done in automotive industry.Value engineering is a kind of fruitful management method, which aims at improving the fuction of the reseach object, reducing invested cost. Thus the goal of promoting value of products and meeting the requirements of customers could be achieved. That value engineering is introduced in design and development of automotive parts will bring important meanings to developing and promoting the market competition of local automotive parts.This paper introduces Value Engineering ( VE ) in design and development of automotive intake system.First, to adopt forced decision (FD) to choose the research object, Secondly, to put forward improvement scheme through innovation, then to evaluate scheme with means of Quality Function Deployment(QFD). As a result, function is retained and value of intake-manifold is promoted.This paper includes following content with certain innovations: Value engineering helps to create a new design of automotive intake system. QFD is used in evaluation of scheme, which better reflects the requirements of customers. Value engineering succeeds in maintaining original fuction and cost of part decreases by 35% in innovation of alternative intake manifold.
