Phyllostachys edulis is one of the most important forest species in South China. Based onstanding biomass inventory, soil section, chemical analysis and otherwise in type forestland, thestudy has researched the soil physical and chemical properties、carbon storage and caloric valueof north subtropical phyllostachys edulis plantation ecosystem. It would provide essential databases for the research on carbon source/sink in forest in Jiangsu province even in the country.The results showed:(1)Soil bulk density from top to bottom gradually increased, The value of soil organic matter,available nitrogen, available phosphorus, available potassium from top to down, graduallyreduced. The value of pH in all points were5.576.83,the average value was5.95, soil wasacidic.(2) There are big differences in biomass per culm of phyllostachy edulis, per culm ofphyllostachy edulis weight was12.6427.87kg,the average value was18.12kg. Biomass ofaboveground (branch、leaf、stem) totally was61.0827t/hm2,biomass of underground totally was28.5433t/hm2, biomass of phyllostachy edulis totally was89.6260t/hm2. Biomass of under storyand litter were1.508t/hm2.(3) Carbon content of aboveground in different phyllostachy edulis organs were428.3730g/kg480.0790g/kg,average value was459.5461g/kg.Carbon content was lowest inleaf(428.3730g/kg),highest in stem(480.0790g/kg). There were no significant differences ofcarbon content in varying ages. Carbon content of aboveground in phyllostachy edulis were1.57and1.28times more than under story and litter.(4) Carbon storage of aboveground in phyllostachy edulis was28.98t/hm2, undergroundwas14.27t/hm2. Carbon storage in stem、branch、leaf and underground were accounted for51.84%、10.27%、4.90%、33.00%. Carbon storage of under story and litter were0.530t/hm2and0.61t/hm2.(5) The value of soil carbon content from top to down gradually reduced. Average carbonstorage of Phyllostachy edulis was91.95t/hm2.(6)The total carbon storage of phyllostachy edulis ecosystem was173.93t/hm2,wherecarbon storage of tree layer was43.25t/hm2, taking up31.72%.The total annual carbon fixationin aboveground phyllostachys edulis forest were8.28tC·hm-2·a-1, corresponding to CO230.36t·hm-2·a-1.(7)The average gross caloric value of leaf、branch、stem were19.35KJ/g、18.27KJ/g、18.81KJ/g. The ash content was highest in leaf, and between7.88%and11.95%.The averagevalue of ash content were15.85%、11.84%、10.47%、9.99%in varying ages. The ash-free caloricvalue were18.78KJ/g21.14KJ/g for phyllostachy edulis in varying ages. (8) Standing crop of energy was lowest in leaf, highest in stem. Accumulated standing cropof energy of organs for phyllostachy edulis were18547KJ/m2、37407KJ/m2、35934KJ/m2、23407KJ/m2in varing ages. The total standing crop of energy of phyllostachys edulisaboveground ecosystem was116880KJ/m2, where organs of aboveground was115296KJ/m2,taking up98.64%.
