The objective of the study was to evaluate the feasibility of soybean pod sells (SPS)used as ruminant feeds, which may be beneficial to feed resource. The study containedthree parts: The assessment of feeding value of soybean pod sells (part1), the modulationtechnique of SPS silage (part2), the effect of SPS silages feeding on dairy cattle.Experiment1: The experiments were conducted to evaluate the nutritional value ofgreen soybean pod shells. In this experiment, the determination of general nutrients, aminoacids and trace element analysis of the SPS, Which would be evaluated the forage nutritivevalue of SPS. The results showed that: the dry matter of pod shells contained12.4%protein,0.42%calcium and0.21%Phosphorus, while the content of neutral detergentfiber(NDF),acid detergent fiber(ADF),total amino acid (TAA) and essential aminoacids(EAA) were respectively51.1%,37.3%,9.7%and37.8%. In addition to, greensoybean pod shells was abundant in trace elements as well. The feeding effect of wasequivalent to that of chinensis. The green soybean pod shells as an abnormal fodder ofruminant animal were established the resource development and demonstrate theoretical aswell as practical values.Experiment2: This experiment studied the ensile techniques of soybean pod shells. Itincludes into two parts.Part1: The effects of additives on soybean pod shells silage were studied. We conduct anexperiment to survey the effect on the quality of soybean pod shells by adding the series ofadditives, the formic acid, cellulose enzyme, lactobacillus, the mixture of formic acid andthe Lactobacillus. The period of the silage was60days. The study showed that the qualityof soybean pod shells can be improved by adding the formic acid, lactic acid bacteria plusformic acid(P<0.05). The pH and ammonia nitrogen content significantly reduced(P<0.05), in which the ammoniacal nitrogen content and pH of add to formic acid groupand lactobacillus group was the lowest. Considered the nutritional and sensory quality, themixture of formic acid and lactobacillus can be better.Part2: The effects of soybean pod shells and dry corn cob mix-ensiling on silage qualitywere studied. Four treatments included CK(control group),test group S1(20%corncob+80%soybean pod shells),test group S2(30%corn cob+70%soybean pod shells),test group S3(40%corn cob+60%soybean pod shells). The period of the silage was60days. Silages of soybean pod shells and corn cob mix-ensiling weresensuous evaluated and silage samples analyzed for pH, crude protein, neutral detergentfiber, acid detergent fiber, acetic acid, propionic acid, butyric acid, lactic acid, and total acid. The result showed that different modulation ratios of the mixed silage products havea significant effect. Compared with the control group sensory evaluation of three treatmentgroups has significantly improved, which the S1group is the best. Soybean pod shells andcorn cob mix-ensiling, ammonia nitrogen/total nitrogen and pH were reduced. With the corn cob content increased, the lactic acid content of silage is gradually reduced. However the butyric acid content tendency to increase, Which the S1group the highest content of lactic acid. In the aspect of nutrition constituent, Fibercontent of corn cob is more and Crude protein content is loss, so the Nutritional valueof corn cob is lower than Soybean pod shells. if increasing the content of corn cob whenmixing both of them, the crude protein content of mix-ensiling will reduce gradually, the content of NDF and ADF would rise gradually. So the ensiling effect of S1(20%corncob+80%Soybean pod shells) is the most best by comprehensive consideration.Experiment3: The objective of this study was investigated vegetable soybean podshells silage on milk yield, milk composition, blood biochemical index of lactation dairycows. Twelve Holstein cows were divided into three groups by random block design.Cows of control group fed the cattle farms of the original diet and feeding. Cows test groupwere fed with diets content6kg and9kg vegetable soybean pod shells silage substituted1.5kg and2.5kg alfalfa for group1and group2. The results showed that, the Milk productsdifferences of cows was remarkable (P<0.05) if we replaced1.5kg alfalfa hay by6kg Mixed storage with vegetable soybean pod shells, but the Milk products differencesof cows wasn’t remarkable (P>0.05) if we replaced2.5kg alfalfa hay by9kgMixed storage with vegetable soybean pod shells. The butterfat rate differences of bothcontrol group and treatment group had bead reached Significant level(P<0.05). Theindex difference of Dairy protein, lactose, Non-fat solids and biochemical index of bloodwasn’t remarkable. Compared to that control group, the cost for0.08yuan and0.14yuanevery1kg4%cream corrected milk in experiental group was saved. Mixed storage withvegetable soybean pod shells can be seen as a good ruminant feed and can alternativealfalfa.
