This study was based on laboratory experiments and outdoor artificial afforestation test of four plantsof Haloxylon sp. To investigate the seed characteristics (1000-grain weight and germination rate) of four H.ammodendron sp. and the growth indices of annual container seedlings, then analyzed seed characteristicsand seedling growth and its correlation with the geographical environment factors. To design3factors(provenances, matrix formulations, GGR concentration)4level orthogonal test, then analyzed differentmatrix formulations and GGR concentration of different Haloxylon sp. plant growth. To conduct outdoorartificial afforestation test plants of Haloxylon sp., compared that growth in the wild. The main resultsshowed:(1)On the side of1000-grain weight and germination rate, the order is H. persicum from Turpan> H.ammodendron from Jinghe> H. ammodendron from Qitai> H. ammodendron from Turpan. On anotherside of the growth indices (seedling height, ground diameter, root length, number of hair roots, aboveground fresh weight, underground part fresh weight) of annual container seedlings, the order is H. persicumfrom Turpan> H. ammodendron from Turpan> H. ammodendron from Jinghe> H. ammodendron fromQitai.(2)The seedling growth traits of four Haloxylon sp. showed a strong adaptability to environmental factors. There were significant correlations between seedling height, ground diameter, root length and number ofhair roots, altitude, annual rainfall, mean annual temperature, January temperature and July temperature(P<0.05), besides1000-grain weight and germination rate. The result showed that Haloxylon sp in thelong-term evolutionary process to adapt to complex environments with suitable genetic variation. Differentkinds of source plants also have a genetic variation in order to adapt to environmental changes and stabilityof the genetic variation in traits passed to offspring.(3)The provenances, matrix formulations and GGR treatment have a significant impact on the growth ofseedlings of Haloxylon sp. On the side of the geographical provenance, the order is H. persicum fromTurpan> H. ammodendron from Turpan> H. ammodendron from Jinghe> H. ammodendron from Qitai. Onthe side of the matrix formulations, the order is5(nursery soil):3(sand):2(sawdust and sheepmanure)>5:4:1>5:3:2>4:2:4. On the side of the GGR concentration, seedlings growth of20mg/kgconcentration treatment was the best, and there were no significant effects of various processing (0mg/kg,10mg/kg,30mg/kg). Therefore, container seedling of H. persicum should be chosen as a seed sourcecombinating with5:3:2matrix formulations and20mg/kg concentration.(4)Three years Haloxylon species plantation test results show that the order is H. persicum from Turpan>H. ammodendron from Jinghe> H. ammodendron from Turpan> H. ammodendron from Qitai. As a result, H. persicum from Turpan can be an excellent source to promote, H. ammodendron fromTurpan can be an medium provenance, and H. ammodendron from Jinghe and Qitai were relatively poorquality seed sources.
