Ping’ou hybrid hazelnuts are bred hybrids for interspecific hybridization with C. heterophylla Fisch. as female parent and C. avellana L. as the male parent. Ping’ou hybrid hazelnuts are main cultivars cultivated in China. Hybrid hazelnut trees can resist against low temperature, but there are varying degrees of shoot shriveling phenomenon. In this experiment,12hybrid hazelnut cultivars or lines grown in germplasm resources garden of Shanxi Agricultural University were used as test materials. The tissue anatomy structure of annual branch cross-sections, lenticels and absorbing root cross-sections in growing season were observed. The resistance of shoot shriveling of12hybrid hazelnut varieties or lines were evaluated. Systematic study of the relationship between the anatomical structure characters and resistance of shoot shriveling were carried out. And the dynamic determination of physiological characters was done during the period of dormancy. Identify the hybrid hazelnut’s physiological sensitive period in Taigu County, Shanxi Province. And the hybrid hazelnut varieties of84-254implementation of resistance of shoot shriveling measures, provided technical support for hybrid hazel sprout prevention.The main results are as follows:1. The sprout main reason is that early spring underground absorbed water unable meet the the aboveground water consumption, which branches moisture content is too low.2. During the hybrid Hazel over wintering physiological sensitive period in mid-February in Taigu County, Shanxi Province. The sprout index is more accurately reflect the hybrid hazel wintering period case than the sprout rate. The hybrid hazelnut root is a typical quaternary root. Shoot water content and conductivity with sprout resistance was a significant negative correlation.3. The varieties (department) of hybrid hazelnut:82-7、85-73, are well anti-sprout varieties (department).4. The varieties (department), which one year-old branches pith and xylem ratio is small, wood-ray and xylem ratio is big, is not easy to sprout, in contrary conditions, it is easy to sprout. The varieties (department) which Lenticels density is small, is not easy to sprout, in contrary conditions, it is easy to sprout. The varieties (department) which Wood/Bark and catheter density in absorbing roots is big, is not easy to sprout, in contrary conditions, it is easy to sprout.5. It is a good practices that emasculation inflorescence and early spring irrigation to prevent hybrid hazel pumping significantly.
