It is known that sugarcane is a perennial root plant, and its harvest and growthquality in following year may be influenced by the cutting quality. As a key componentin a sugarcane harvester, the design on its cutting device may have a direct impact onthe performance of whole machine. But nowadays in our domestic market, due to theunreasonable design parameters, the existing devices have a higher rate of broken headand a low harvesting efficiency which cannot meet customer’s requirements. For thatreason, the cutting device of sugarcane harvester was studied in this paper through thestructure design, simulation analysis and a experimental analysis, respectively. And theanalysis result may offer a better cutting performance, a lower rate of broken head andhigher yields.First of all, the working principle of sugarcane harvester and its cutting devicewere analyzed, and then the structural design method was studied further. On the basisof structural researches on whole machine and its cutting device, some key factors asrotating speed of cutter, forward velocity, edge angle and cutting angle which mayinfluence the cutting performance were obtained in a design process. Though theanalysis, the reasonable design scheme to the critical components was created and avirtual model was set up.Secondly, a dynamic simulation analysis on the cutting device was carried outin a finite element analysis software according to the actual working condition.Through the analysis on cutting process, some results including stress nephogram ofsugarcane in cutting process, displacement nephogram of cutting device and curves ofcutting force were obtained which may lay a theoretical foundation for the cuttingexperiment. According to investigation, the influencing factors on cutting performanceof cutting device were analyzed by an orthogonal experimental design. After designingthe experimental scheme, the sugarcane cutting experiment was conducted, and thenthe test data with different rotating speed of cutter, forward velocity, edge angle and cutting angle were obtained. Through the analysis to test data and optimal design, themodel was improved and verified by an experiment.Finally, the problems existing in experimental process were summarized whichmay offer theoretical evidence for further improvement of the cutting device.
