Purple tomato which is specialty tomato variety, has unique appearance and high nutritional value. The purple tomato study mainly focus on the cultivation, nutritional value and transgene at home and abroad. Studies on the pigment accumulation and fruit color inheritance in purple tomato fruits, which can provide theoretical basis for the development and utilization of purple traits, has important theoretical significance for tomato quality breeding. Studies on germplasm innovation can lay the foundation for breeding new purple tomato varieties, which has the important practical significance. In this study, the changes of pigment accumulation during fruit mature period and the heredity of purple traits were studied. Four materials of mature fruit color, such as red, yellow, green, and pink, used as the control. The main results are as follows.The contents of chlorophyll, chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b, and carotene are much higher than other varieties in the purple tomato fruit. The lycopene content of purple tomato had as much as red, pink tomatoes. Anthocyanin content is higher than other varieties, but the content is very low, that is not enough to significantly influence on fruit coloration. Perhaps mature fruit color of purple tomato was caused with higher chlorophyll content.The determination of mature fruit surface color by colorimeter and analysis of pigment content indicate that purple tomato contains large amounts of chlorophyll, that makes a value of fruit surface decreased, so determining the content of lycopene through a value is not advisable in different color fruit. The correlation analysis showed that lycopene content was significantly correlated with a value. Therefore, between varieties of same fruit color, a value can be used as reference to quickly compare the lycopene content.Fl hybrid fruit color of purple tomato respectively with red and yellow tomato is red, is purple with green tomato, and is pink with pink tomato. The genetic analysis showed that the trait of purple tomato flesh color is controlled by two co-dominant genes.The purple tomato was used as germplasm improvement and innovation by means of conventional breeding. Four purple tomato materials with high resistance to TYLCV were developed. These materials have fine horticultural characters, after further purified, can be applied directly to the new hybrid.
