Salvia miltiorrhiza Bge. which is a herbal medicine is the dry root and rhizome of theSalvia miltiorrhiza Bge. Two different strains salvia miltiorrhiza were selected asexperimental materials, and five different plant densities were set respectively. In order to findthe best cultivation mode, we studied the dynamic accumulation of dry matter, activeingredient, enzymes activities, absorption and distribution of N, P and K under different plantdensities. This experiment analyzes the physiological mechanism how density affected yieldand quality. The main results were as followed:1.Effect of planting density on yield of different strain Salvia miltiorrhiza Bge.The accumulation of dry matter of the whole and the root of two type of Salviamiltiorrhiza Bge. single plant were decreasing with the increasement of density. First, theaccumulation of the group increased, and then decreased. The strain of No.74got the highestyield under the treatment Ⅳ,while he strain of No.105under the treatment Ⅲ. Besides, withincreasing of plant density, the average length and diameter of roots, the number of the rootand root width of single plant decreased gradually. And plant density had little affect on thenumber of root, the difference was no significant.2.Effect of planting density on quality and related enzymes activities of different strainSalvia miltiorrhiza Bge.The effects on plant density on effective ingredients were different. In the strain74, thedihydrotanshinone components was highest under treatmentⅢ, lowest under treatment Ⅰ.Thetanshinone Ⅰ components was highest under treatmentⅠ, lowest under treatment Ⅲ.Thecryptotanshinone, rosmarinic acid and salvianolic acid B components decreased withimproving of planting densities. The tanshinone ⅡA components showedⅢ>Ⅳ> Ⅱ>Ⅰ>Ⅴ。In the strain105, the tanshinone Ⅰ,cryptotanshinone, rosmarinic acid and salvianolic acid Bcomponents decreased with improving of planting densities, while the dihydrotanshinone andtanshinone ⅡA componentswas highest under treatmentⅢ.Plant density could importently affect the activity of enzymes in relation to the formationof phenolic acids, with plant density improving, the cativity of PPO and PAL decreased.3.Effect of planting density on aging related indicators in different strain Salviamiltiorrhiza Bge. Plant density could obviously affect physiological indicators of the plant. For plantdensity affected the indicators of aging, with the growth period going, the activity of SOD andPOD increased firstly, then decreased in both of the two. And with plant density increasing, the activity decreased. But the contenn of MDA decreased firstly, then increased. And itincreased with plant density increasing.4.Effect of planting density on the absorption and distribution of N, P and K of differentstrains of Salvia miltiorrhiza Bge.Plant density could obviously affect the absorption and distribution of N, P and K. Thereis no remarkable diversity about the absorption of N, P and K among different treatmentsduring early growth stage. With the stage going, they all decreased with the plant densityincreasing. When it came to the harvest time, the proportion of N, P and K that distributed tothe root was higher in treatment Ⅱa ng Ⅲ. It helped to improve the economic coefficient ofSalvia miltiorrhiza Bge.
