The study on conservation tillage mode has been developed many years forsustainable development of agriculture. The inter-row alternating plantingconservation tillage, It takes the place of successive years of planting on ridges toachieve no tillage, minimum tillage and straw-stubble retuning soil. These specialworking situations will set a still higher demand on the performance of soil-engagingcomponent. Press-device is one of the key parts in planter, the good and the bad of itis directly related to seeding quality. The study on elastic press wheel has not beenreported widely which different to rigid press wheel, but the outstanding advantagesof its structure and material, especially the deformation properties to ensure workingstability and desorption has wide application prospects.In this paper, a elastic press device with the function of soil covering and soilcompacting, depth limitation, transmission and desorption has been designed. Thestructural characteristics and design method of the press wheel, the whole design andtest of the press device is investigated in this paper.A elastic press wheel with a double-cavity structure was presented, and theshape of cross section for a single-cavity’s lateral margin is circular-arc. Combinedwith force analysis of the soil and thin film model of tire mechanics, a contact forcemodel between press wheel and furrows was built up based on the operating featuresof inter-row till-planter and shape characteristic of furrows. Theoretical model of thepress wheel was built up based on shape characteristic of furrows. The mathematicalequation based on radius of lateral margin(R) and angle with horizontal plane(θ)taken as attributive variable, external load(F), pressure(p), width of press wheel(b),radial deformation rate (s) and lateral deformation rate() taken as automaticvariable to determine geometry size of the single-cavity. The results show that thematerial of press wheel is Styrene Butadiene Rubber (SBR), the Hardness is60±5SHA, the Density is1300kg/m3, the Young’s modulus is4.9MPa, the Poisson’s ratiois0.49. The outside diameter of the press wheel is500mm, the width is180mm, thethickness is8mm. The width for single-cavity of the press wheel is70mm, theradius of cross section centerline for the lateral margin of the single-cavity is41mm and135mm respectively, and the angle with horizontal plane is0~75°and75~90°respectively.The ABAQUS finite element analysis software was used to simulate theworking process of the elastic press wheel and V type rigid press wheel in this paper.Analysis on contact stress, contact strain, contact displacement, contact area andcontact force of the soil and press wheel, to evaluate operation effectiveness of thepress wheel which designed. The results show that the function of covering soil,compacting and working stability is better than V type rigid press wheel.The performance test for the designed elastic press device for2BH-3Inter-rowTill-planter was conducted according to the national standards. The performance testresult showed that various indexes of press device can meet the requirement of thenational standard and the target we set. The slip ratio of the press wheel is1.67%, thecovering depth is34mm and the soil hardness after operation is0.325kg/cm2.The research and experiment of elastic press device for inter-row till-planterprovides performance guarantee for the study on implement suitable for theinter-row alternating planting conservation tillage. This design method is new andpractical and has certain application value.
