Objective:To investigate the applications of Gal-3(Galectin-3)、CK19、HBME-1inthe diagnosis of papillary thyroid carcinoma by studying the different expressionpatterns of three molecular makers in papillary thyroid carcinoma and benign thyroidlesions. Methods:Immunohistochemical staining methods(En Vision two-step VisualizationSystems) were used to detect the expression of Gal-3、CK19、HBME-1in80cases ofPTC(classic variant of PTC,52cases;follicular variant of PTC,6cases;papillary microcarcinoma,22cases) and80cases of benign thyroid lesions(thyroid goiter,40cases;thyroid adenoma,22cases;Hashimoto thyroiditis,18cases).Results: The expression of Gal-3、 CK19and HBME-1were identified in92.5%(73/80)、97.5%(78/80) and96.3%(77/80) of PTC cases, and in27.5%(22/80)、16.3%(13/80) and13.8%(11/80) of benign thyroid lesions cases;High expressions ofthe three molecular makers were found in most of the PTC cases, but not found innormal thyroid specimens. The sensitivity, specificity and accuracy of the jointdetection of the three molecular makers for distinguishing between PTC and benignlesions were85%,100%and92.5%,respectively.Conclusions:The expressions of Gal-3、CK19、HBME-1in PTC were significantlyhigher than those in benign lesions, which is helpful in distinguishing between PTCand benign lesions.
