Objective:Aberrant expressions of cytokeratinsl9 (CK19), galectin-3 (gal-3), HBME-1, CD56 and RET in thyroid papillary carcinoma (PTC) and their diagnostic value. Methods:From April 2007 to June 2010,70 patients with thyroid masses (50 cases with papillary thyroid carcinoma and 20 cases with nodular goiter) of Pathology room subordinate Hospital Dali Medical college and Hospital peoples of Dali. Archival tissue specimens of the 70 patients were examined for CK19, Galectin-3, HBME-1, CD56 and RET expressions by the way of immunohistochemical staining. Results:The rates of immuno-positive staining of CK19, Galectin-3, HBME-1, CD56 and RET in papillary thyroid carcinoma were 94.0%,92.0%,88.0%,4.0%,68.0%respectively, which were significantly higher than that of benign lesions(15.0%,20.0%,30.0%,100.0%,15.0%, respectively). No significant relationship was found among the expressions of CK19, Galectin-3, HBME-1,CD56 and RET the gender, age, tumor size, clinical stage and lymph node metastasis in thyroid papillary carcinoma. The AUROC of CK19, Galectin-3, HBME-1, CD56 and RET were 0.950,0.930,0.861 O.OOOand 0.730, respectively. The diagnostic sensitivity and specificity were 94.0% and 85.0% for CK19,92.0% and 80.0% for Galectin-3,88.0% and 70.0%for HBME-1,4.0% and 0.0% for CD56and 56.0% and 85.0% for RET respectively. Conclusion:The expression levels of CK19, Galectin-3, HBME-1, CD56and RET are significantly higher in papillary thyroid carcinoma than those in benign thyroid papillary hyperplasia and thyroid adenoma, which maybe of some diagnostic value clinic CK19, Galectin-3, HBME-1, CD56 and RET expression can be important factors for identifying the benign and malignant tumor and their biological behaviors.
